BOSTON — Moments after touching down at Logan Airport, chaos erupted in the aisle of a Spirit Airlines flight, captured on cell phone video by shocked passengers. The incident occurred late Tuesday evening as the plane, arriving from Myrtle Beach at 11:44 p.m., was beginning to deplane.
A brave flight attendant attempted to intervene, using her body and arms as shields to break up the fight, narrowly avoiding punches thrown by two men. Passenger Nicole Grome, a student at Coastal Carolina University returning to Framingham with her parents, commended the flight attendant’s courage. “She’s putting herself in a dangerous situation to protect everyone else on the flight,” she remarked.
The Grome family witnessed the escalation of tensions that had been building throughout the two-hour flight. “We were on the runway, and it turned physical,” Laura Grome, Nicole’s mother, commented on the unforeseen danger that arose as passengers prepared to exit the aircraft.
The conflict continued until the plane was fully stopped, with other passengers urging the belligerents to cease their altercation. Nicole expressed her astonishment at the fight, noting the potential consequences: “I was shocked that anyone would actually throw hands on a flight because that would get you on the ‘no-fly list’ so quickly.”
Once the situation calmed, passengers not involved were instructed to disembark. Massachusetts State Police were called to the scene, where they found both men involved had moved beyond the security checkpoint. The alleged victim did not wish to press charges, stating he was unharmed.
Spirit Airlines has responded firmly, stating, “Law enforcement was requested due to a disturbance… We do not tolerate disruptive behavior of any kind, and the passengers involved are no longer welcome on any of our flights.”
As investigations continue, further details are expected to emerge about this startling incident.
