The PlayStation 4 offers an incredible library of video games. Sony achieved unprecedented success this console generation through irresistible exclusive titles like 2018’s God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn.
1. God of War
God of War stands as one of the most visually stunning games to come out for PlayStation in recent memory, featuring character models with incredible animation, as well as its unsettling depictions of Edith Finch’s family deaths which keep players guessing right up until their conclusion.
God of War Reboot marks a complete change of pace for the franchise, shifting focus away from Kratos and towards Atreus as he and his son embark on their adventure through Norse mythology and new regions of the world. With a more measured, nuanced character as its focus and an impressive supporting cast and combat system at Santa Monica Studio’s disposal, their accomplishment in creating this game was nothing short of amazing!
The game offers an impressive set of accessibility features that enable players to tailor the experience according to their own preference, from changing character contrast, screen resolution or frame rate as well as coloring enemies, loot items, special effects or paint that guides traversal.
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
Horizon Zero Dawn, developed and published by Sony, is an exquisite open world action role-playing game set in an apocalyptic future dominated by robotic animals. Horizon Zero Dawn boasts some of the most breathtaking scenery found anywhere in gaming, making its world both beautiful and exciting to explore.
The story centers around the Nora tribe, an isolated group of fierce hunters that worships an all-mother goddess named All-Mother and forbidden to leave its sacred land. Other tribes are seen as outsiders and intrusions on this tribal territory.
Horizon Zero Dawn features an expansive and varied landscape spanning from frozen mountain ranges in the north to deserts in the south. The environment is believable and immersive with full day/night cycles and dynamic weather systems for added authenticity.
Horizon Zero Dawn was specifically optimized for PC, featuring high frame rates, arbitrary resolution rendering, 21:9 aspect ratio support and an extensive set of graphical options for players to tailor their experience according to personal taste. Furthermore, keyboard and mouse input is supported so it feels like a native PC game experience.
3. Uncharted 4
Uncharted 4 is an exhilarating, thrilling, and satisfying conclusion to one of PlayStation’s most iconic franchises. Naughty Dog has taken one more step forward than before with this title; taking cinematic adventure gaming to its pinnacle while providing Nathan Drake with an exciting farewell chapter in Uncharted 4.
Unsurprisingly, it boasts some of the greatest set-pieces ever seen in video game history. A heist in Tuscany, an acrobatic escape along cliffs in Scotland and a shootout across a busy marketplace in Madagascar are all here – each carefully designed to keep players engaged by using camera angles and lighting effects that help guide actions while not diminishing the sense of excitement that pervades this experience.
Enemies have evolved beyond being simple bullet sponges, and open levels offer plenty of ways to approach every encounter. Upping the difficulty adds even more depth; forcing you to use both stealth and brute force techniques when dealing with each encounter instead of just one approach at a time.
As with its predecessors, Uncharted 4 offers an engaging multiplayer experience as part of its core conceit: team deathmatches that channel Drake’s spirit and create an environment filled with camaraderie that fans have come to know and expect from this series.
4. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Discover a stunning intergalactic adventure, packed with new planets, gameplay elements and visuals designed to maximize the power of PlayStation 5. Explore alternate dimensions, warp across battlefields, repair planetary rifts with dimension-spanning puzzles and visit never-before-seen worlds in an immersive and visually dazzling experience powered by PS5’s mind-boggling speed and immersive features.
Rift Apart marks the return of Ratchet and Clank to gaming since 2013’s A Crack in Time, pitting our heroes against Chairman Drek of the Blarg race who seeks to create their home planet by destroying others.
Through their campaign, players will collect regular bolts from defeated enemies to upgrade weapons and ammo as well as golden bolts that unlock additional upgrades, with golden ones unlocking even more upgrades. Furthermore, this game also offers other collectibles, including Raritanium crystals that appear in each level that can unlock new armor pieces; players can also collect rifts strewn throughout the environment that lead to side missions with rewards including new weapons if collected from defeated foes.
5. Dreams
Dreams is an incredible creative suite developed by BAFTA-winning developers Media Molecule (LittleBigPlanet, Tearaway). Boasting limitless ways of play, its expansive Dreamiverse provides endless opportunities for inspiration – be it pirate adventures, driving games or intimate narrative adventures; the only limit lies with your imagination!
Ratchet and Clank received an incredible update with this PS4 reboot that truly leveraged its power. This exquisitely remastered version of its first adventure will delight fans while providing some notable story enhancements.
Remedy’s third-person shooter Control stands out among this generation’s games with its surreal supernatural elements and frenetic telekinetic combat, making for one of the most distinctive experiences this generation. Additionally, its haunting, emotional storytelling makes this title one of the top games available on PS4.
