What are some of the best PS2 games of all time? That question is asked a lot. Here’s our list!
Devil May Cry 3
Devil May Cry 3 is the latest installment of the award-winning Devil May Cry series of hack-and-slash action video games, and serves as a prequel to its predecessor. This installment tells the tale of Dante and Vergil as they attempt to unlock Hell and save their twin brother Dante from certain death.
This game introduces several novel gameplay features to the franchise, giving players access to six combat styles with unique special techniques – Trickster for dodging and agility; Swordmaster for swords and other melee weapons; Gunslinger for firearms; Royal Guard which deflects attacks; Quicksilver that slows enemies down; and Doppelganger who creates an undead double of Dante to fight alongside them in battle.
Devil May Cry 3 takes an unconventional approach to demon slaying by placing more emphasis on style than demon killing. Players can fill the stylish meter by dodging and attacking, creating stunning sequences of combos. Dante also gains access to five unique devil weapons and firearms which can be switched out between battles as needed.
Shadow of the Colossus
Shadow of the Colossus tells the tale of Wander, an adventurous young man traveling into an uncharted land to save an angelic maiden who has fallen from grace. Wander’s only clue as to her whereabouts comes from hearing a voice inside a temple that claims she can be brought back by defeating 16 colossi that have appeared across its landscape.
As opposed to most games of its era, The Sims features no side missions to complete or manage; its focus instead rests on experiencing a zen-like journey across vast landscapes while conquering each giant by strategically pinpointing their weak points and stabbing away until they succumb.
At the time, this approach to minimalism was revolutionary in an industry that often prioritizes more content, Games As Service and bloatware. On PlayStation 4, this game received an updated bottom-up remake that includes new renders and major remodels of colossi. Furthermore, many quality-of-life improvements were also added for added gameplay value.
God of War II
God of War II is the second installment in the God of War series and takes place in an alternate version of ancient Greece populated with Olympian gods and titans, focusing on Kratos, who still struggles with his past while on an ambitious quest to kill Zeus. It includes improved puzzles, new game modes, and four times as many bosses than its predecessor did.
God of War II allows players to control Kratos in an open world environment in which he can run, double jump, block, evade objects and use magic abilities. You can acquire secondary weapons and power-enhancing abilities through challenges or opening chests; Athena’s Blades can be upgraded by collecting red orbs scattered throughout the game which provide health while blue ones provide magic; additionally you can purchase new abilities from Goddess’s Shop.
Grand Theft Auto 3
Grand Theft Auto 3 revolutionized the action-adventure genre when it debuted in 2001, thanks to its use of 3D space and narrative storytelling – something no other game had done before or since. Furthermore, GTA 3’s success cemented its status as an immensely profitable franchise.
GTA 3’s Definitive Edition, currently available on PS4, PS3 and iOS devices, has been upgraded with upgraded graphics and targeting controls to create an unforgettable time capsule experience that remains fun and challenging today. While certain aspects may appear dated now, many players still find the gameplay fun and rewarding.
This remaster also features a full time of day and weather system that makes Liberty City feel alive. Hundreds of pedestrians populate its streets, each with their own personality; radio stations broadcast licensed music as well as talk radio programming. Furthermore, there’s a vast arsenal of weapons and vehicles to select from within this game.
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 5 revitalized many iconic locations from previous Resident Evil games while introducing fresh characters and enemies for an immersive horror experience. Furthermore, there were challenging bosses which required considerable time for gamers to beat them successfully.
Chris Redfield returns as one of the main characters from Resident Evil franchise and serves as a member of BSAA to assist with taking down Umbrella in previous games. Now, with Sheva Alomar as his partner in West Africa to investigate some suspicious arms deals.
Though gameplay remains similar to previous entries in the series, Resident Evil 5 marks an evolution in terms of camera perspective and control scheme. Players cannot simultaneously move and shoot, leading to more methodical play that prioritizes accuracy over commonplace hunkering behind cover tactics and running-and-gunning tactics. Weapon upgrades also do not carry over into Lost in Nightmares DLC campaign.
Skateboarding World Tour
Skateboarding World Tour may not live up to the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, but it still boasts an amazing range of tricks, more levels per game and some of the most creative skateparks ever imagined. Instead of featuring Jackass-style antics like earlier games in the series, however, much of its humor here is sophisticated and subtle; not unlike its amazing graphics that make racing through car parks and skating over billboards all the more exhilarating; even blood (which can be disabled for the more sensitive) that appears when hard slammed is impressive as well!
