The Best Wii Games

Few video game consoles created as much excitement as the Nintendo Wii. The motion-tracking controllers opened up an entirely new way of playing games and gave rise to groundbreaking titles.

Super Mario Galaxy

Super Mario Galaxy was an instant classic when released for Wii, receiving critical acclaim and garnering significant pre-release awareness with appearances on multiple gaming magazines including Nintendo Power, GamePro Revolution and NGamer covering it as soon as its launch date arrived.

Nintendo’s designers understand video games. Galaxy marks an enormous leap forward for Nintendo in design innovation; its physics are inventive, even revolutionary; Mario can swim through a ball of water suspended in space, float like a ghost on frozen planets or run, jump and wall kick across various unique worlds – something previously impossible in video games.

Galaxy of Light features six main galaxies – including the Good Egg Galaxy, which offers no puzzles; Honeyhive Galaxy with Bee Suit and Queen Bee; Flipswitch Galaxy which contains contradictions of water and air; Drip Drop Galaxy which explores gravity; Bubble Breeze Galaxy which introduces Luigi; Flipswitch Galaxy (featuring water and air in an opposing manner), Drip Drop Galaxy which explores gravity; Flipswitch Galaxy featuring water and air; Flipswitch Galaxy which explores themes of water and air; Flipswitch Galaxy features a boss battle against Bowser Jr’s robot reactor. Each galaxy features missions for players to complete, with each mission rewardable with Power Stars awarded after completion.

Red Steel 2

The Wii was often maligned for being home to shovelware that failed to engage, yet there were also some truly memorable experiences on it. While narrowing down 10 titles from an entire year’s offerings is difficult, these titles showcase just what the Nintendo Wii was capable of when given its fullest effort.

Red Steel 2 puts you into the role of an anonymous badass warrior from an ancient clan that has nearly vanished from history. While exploring Caldera, you’ll encounter both Japanese and Western themes woven together into an epic tale as real as any you will find on console gaming today.

Action in this game is incredible. While it doesn’t reach the heights of Resident Evil 4, its sword-slashing and gunplay feel fantastic for most parts. There may occasionally be issues such as when stabbing motions don’t register properly or what felt like wide swings to you are misinterpreted by the system as weak stabs – however this rarely becomes an issue.

Wii Sports

Wii Sports was the inaugural title to showcase Nintendo’s groundbreaking motion controls in their revolutionary new controller, Wii. As a multiplayer-focused title designed to introduce those unfamiliar with video gaming to its joys and draw them in, it featured five different sports to test your strength and skill while testing your strength–although critics criticized its shallow gameplay options, generic graphics that looked outdated, and its tendency to become tedious when played alone.

Players use the Wii Remote to control their Mii character during each sport, using it as a tennis racket, baseball bat, golf club or boxing glove. Each game includes training mode where players can practice their performances and earn medals; there’s also an optional multiplayer mode in which they compete against friends – but some may wish that there had been more sports included with launch, such as golf – an update known as Wii Sports Resort added golf into its list of available sports.

Star Wars: Battlefront

Star Wars: Battlefront is the Wii’s inaugural major exclusive title and offers players an enjoyable learning experience while teaching how to effectively use motion controls. Furthermore, its 3D environments don’t follow traditional Mario world or other Nintendo titles and give the game its own distinctive feel – giving this experience its own distinct feel and identity.

Iden Versio, commander of Imperial special ops strike force Inferno Squad who defected to the New Republic and played an instrumental role in defeating Imperial forces at Jakku. Additionally, other characters from Star Wars movies, such as Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa Han Solo and Kylo Ren from their film series can be played during certain levels of gameplay.

The multiplayer mode features several game modes, but Walker Assault best captures the scale evoked in Star Wars movies. Other game modes feel more like Star Wars versions of tried-and-true video game staples than Star Wars specific offerings; although still entertaining for short periods. I advise passing up on this title unless seeking an immersive Star Wars experience.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

The Legend of Zelda series has long been celebrated for its immersive environments and elaborate dungeons, yet 2011’s Skyward Sword marked a dramatic departure in terms of gameplay and presentation. Offering motion controls with tilting Wii Remote like sword, Skyward Sword was met with mixed reviews from fans.

Though the original controls may have seemed innovative at the time, they may feel cumbersome after playing Breath of the Wild or other modern titles. Luckily, this remaster features button controls instead, making the experience far smoother than before.

HD Upgrade makes SS look beautiful, showing off its vibrant open world filled with giant birds and mole people to its full potential. Furthermore, it focuses on making it easier to play by providing better prompts on what action to take next and providing more linear experience – not that that means its quality has decreased; its linearity helps the series remain focused on what made it great – its dungeon design remains impressive while story has some of the best character development seen so far in any installment in this franchise.
